IRW Grade 1st - 2nd
Throughout this course, students will not only enhance their grammar knowledge and grasp of parts of speech but also learn the rules of paragraph construction, enabling them to construct coherent and meaningful responses to novel studies.
One of the key objectives of this course is to cultivate an in-depth understanding of various novels suitable for the reading level of Grade 1-2 students. By delving into these carefully selected texts, students will gain mastery over complex literary skills such as making connections, conducting character analysis, and making predictions. Through interactive discussions and activities, students will explore the themes, plotlines, and character motivations within the novels, empowering them to develop critical thinking and analytical abilities.
In addition to literary analysis, this course emphasizes the use of context clues to expand students' vocabulary while reading the novels. Students will learn how to infer word meanings from the surrounding context, fostering their ability to comprehend and engage with new vocabulary in their reading. IRW Grade 3rd - 4th
This course focuses on developing students' reading and writing skills through the exploration of various genres. This course specifically emphasizes training students in the art of writing paragraphs, utilizing multiple writing techniques, and summarizing plots and events effectively.
One of the key components of this course is teaching students how to engage with different literary genres and effectively summarize and retell stories. Through close reading and analysis, students will learn to identify and summarize key plot points, events, and character developments. This skill will enable them to construct cohesive and concise summaries, enhancing their comprehension and analytical abilities.
In addition to plot summarization, this course places a strong emphasis on the use of rhetoric and various writing techniques. Students will learn how to employ figurative language, such as similes, metaphors, and personification, to enhance the impact and vividness of their writing. They will also explore different writing styles and structures, such as descriptive, narrative, and persuasive writing, allowing them to adapt their writing to different contexts and purposes.
Furthermore, this course acknowledges the importance of active listening and critical thinking. IRW Grade 5th - 6th
This course focuses on developing students' abilities in both creative and research-based writing, while also emphasizing the application of appropriate strategies to construct meaning from texts.
A significant aspect of this course is teaching students various writing styles and genres. Students will learn to identify and analyze different text structures and literary devices. They will explore narrative, descriptive, persuasive, and expository writing styles, enabling them to adapt their writing to different purposes and audiences. Through guided practice and feedback, students will develop their skills in crafting well-structured and engaging pieces of writing.
Furthermore, this course will place a strong emphasis on research-based writing and critical thinking skills. Students will learn how to conduct research, evaluate sources, and synthesize information to support their arguments. They will also develop their abilities to interpret, analyze, and evaluate information critically. By engaging in discussions and collaborative activities, students will refine their critical thinking skills and deepen their understanding of complex texts.
Active listening is another crucial component of this course. Students will learn to actively listen by questioning, reflecting, responding, and evaluating what they hear.
